Levelling the Playing Field for Businesses

As China diversifies its economy and plans a whole range of reforms to address foreign investment management, government supervision and the opening up of services, there exists an opportunity for the UK to share our experience and knowledge to create more of a level playing field for British companies, and to cooperate with Chinese policy-makers in ongoing legal and judicial change.

GBCC works with Chinese and UK partners on improving substantive laws in China’s commercially-oriented legal reforms, thereby supporting the development of an open, fair and business-friendly legal framework. Effective and consistent laws applied in a fair and transparent manner allow businesses to make informed decisions and support their ability to thrive, reducing their risks and costs.

Part of this work includes supporting China’s alignment with international commercial laws and norms relating to anti-bribery and anti-money laundering, opening up public procurement, developing consistent tax laws, protecting intellectual property rights as well as consumer and investor rights, and sharing best practice and good governance norms.

This also involves working with China to address new, shared global challenges emerging from disruptive technology and innovation in the legal sector, such as online financial crime, FinTech, secure transactions, data protection and access to information.
