Following the UK delegation’s visit to Beijing for the 3rd Roundtable in 2016, during which Lord Neuberger met his Chinese counterpart, the President of the Supreme People’s Court, Chief Justice Zhou Qiang, this year saw the Judicial Roundtable return to London to further develop ties between the two countries’ judiciaries.

The topic of this year’s Roundtable was the judiciaries’ role in environmental protection, with discussions between the two sides covering topics such as environmental law framework and enforcement, environmental adjudication and international cooperation on environmental protection.

During their four-day visit to the UK, the Chinese delegation also attended the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts, organised by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

The UK-China Judicial Roundtable is an annual dialogue initiated by the Great Britain-China Centre to foster dialogue and the sharing of best practice between the two judiciaries.
