2nd UK-China Rule of Law Roundtable

The 2nd UK-China Rule of Law Roundtable was held at 15 Belgrave Square on the 6th November 2017. A 12-person delegation from the China Law Society attended the event, led by the Vice-President Mr Zhang Mingqi, with participants including  renowned legal academics such as Professors Bian Jianlin of the China University of Political Science and Law and Chen Weidong of Renmin University. The delegation gave speeches on China’s development of its Civil Code and judicial system reform in the digital age, as well as discussing issues of international importance with their UK counterparts.

A number of high-profile legal practitioners and academics from the UK also attended the event, including the former Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas, Supreme Court Justice Lord Hodge and legal academic and author Professor Richard Susskind.

Following the Roundtable, the delegation also paid visits to the Law Society of England and Wales and the Bar Council in order to strengthen the relationship between the legal bodies of the UK and China with a view to increased future cooperation.

The China Law Society’s visit concluded with meetings at Oxford University’s Law Faculty, the Commercial Law Centre and the China Centre, ensuring the continued development of relations between the top academic institutions in China and the UK.
