Judicial Exchanges

GBCC works closely with the UK Supreme Court, the Royal Courts of Justice of England and Wales and the Scottish judiciary, creating important links between the Chinese and UK judiciaries at the most senior level. These links allow the UK judiciary to share best practice with Chinese counterparts and develop invaluable communication channels.

The UK-China Judicial Roundtable is a core element of GBCC’s work to develop these relationships. However, outside of this established dialogue, we also organise regular standalone judicial exchanges between the UK and China.

GBCC uses these opportunities to further build relationship and extend discussion into new areas of mutual interest through study visits to the UK for Chinese judges and legal experts, and through scoping visits to China for UK experts and senior members of the UK judiciary.

For decades, GBCC has also been involved in running self-funded study visits to the UK for Chinese legal scholars and practitioners, with a focus most recently on visiting and understanding the UK court system. Previous delegations have studied topics including the juvenile justice system, prosecution management systems, intellectual property adjudication, discipline and professional ethics and prison management.
