Building Partnerships

The rise of China in a globalised world has made it more urgent than ever to build links. With over 30 years of experience of engagement with China, the Great Britain-China Centre is well-placed to help develop relations across a wide range of issues, meeting the priorities of a rapidly changing China and enabling UK organisations to engage effectively and professionally with Chinese counterparts. We offer a competitive service to help build partnerships for organisations and institutions, facilitating effective dialogue with Chinese government, society and business to provide direct delivery of policy objectives.

UK-China Leadership Forum
Now in its fifth year the UK-China Leadership Forum, a unique initiative between the International Department, Central Committee of the CCP and the GBCC, took place at Ditchley Park in September 2011. The Leadership Forum aims to discuss, debate and establish respective positions on key issues both on a bilateral and international basis, build lasting relationships between influential figures in the political world of both countries and to contribute to the strengthening of the strategic relationship between the UK and China.

The Forum was generously supported by Barclays Capital, BP plc and Rolls-Royce plc.

The UK-China Young Leaders Roundtable

The GBCC works with the All China Youth Federation to run a Young Leaders Roundtable aiming to build understanding and personal relations between rising political leaders from parliament, civil society, think tanks and business. The First meeting took place in London, October 2010 and the second meeting in Beijing and Hohot in May 2011. The Roundtable is led by Liam Byrne MP on the UK side and Wang Xiao, President of the ACYF on the Chinese side.

The Roundtable was generously supported by Diageo plc, Rio Tinto plc and Standard Chartered Bank.

Parliamentary
We act as the secretariat to the All Party Parliamentary Group for China, facilitating regular exchanges between the APPCG and the National People's Congress.

Police
We have assisted the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and other UK police forces to develop their relationship with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security arranging policy seminars and developing a programme of exchanges.

Prosecutors
We support the UK Crown Prosecution Service and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (China) in developing mutual exchange and co-operation.

Trade Unions
Over the last ten years the Great Britain-China Centre has helped cultivate the relationship between the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in the UK and the All China Federation of Trade Unions. We now support regular exchanges as well as assisting sectoral unions with their relationships with Chinese counterparts. We assisted the most recent visit by the TUC General Secretary to Beijing and Liaoning in November 2007.

Academic
Many of our projects bring together academic institutions from the UK, European Union and China, which often develop into deeper, long-lasting co-operation. In particular, we are able to facilitate the crucial early stages of those relationships.

Think tanks
We organise research visits and exchanges between think tanks in the UK and China. Activities can range from identifying potential contacts, designing and delivering single visits, to developing longer term relationships.
