The Great Britain – China Centre is a centre of excellence in the promotion of understanding between Britain and China particularly in the areas of legal and judicial reform, and labour reform. The Centre has an unparalleled experience of running exchange projects with Chinese partners and working with many different UK organisations. The Centre is able to respond rapidly and effectively to the need for dialogue in a particular area and is recognised on both the Chinese and UK sides as being a trusted facilitator. Examples of UK & European organisations with which the GBCC has recently worked are the Department for Constitutional Affairs, the FCO’s Global Opportunities Fund, the All-Party Parliamentary China Group, the EU Delegation in Beijing, the British Council, and the Ford Foundation.

The Centre’s core activities are the development and management of an exchange programme with Chinese partners.

_
The Centre's bilateral exchange programme focuses chiefly on the areas of legal development, good governance, human rights and labour and structural reform. Through these important areas, the Centre aims to build understanding between the UK and China and support China's reform effort. The exchanges are normally small-scale but in many cases have been highly effective in informing China's approach to change and reform in government practice. We run short-term study and longer-term research visits at both senior and working levels of government, in both China and the UK. The Centre does not have an official counterpart organisation in China, but works closely with a range of organisations including government ministries, universities, research centres and the quasi-non governmental sector. Through its Executive Committee and staff the Centre has an extensive network of personal and professional links across China and the UK.
